Facilities are available to undertake a wide range of analyses related to soils, sediments and associated materials. Analyses include physical tests, e.g. particle size distribution using both laser diffraction and classical techniques on both environmental and industrially derived samples. Chemical analyses of soil and waste material include leachable, agriculturally available and total elemental concentrations which comply with US, European and UK standards.
Soil chemical interactions are determined by several techniques/instruments to ascertain the relationship between cation exchange capacity, base saturation, exchangeable acidity, electrical conductivity and pH. Total carbon/inorganic carbon and nitrogen values are obtained using elemental analysis to allow C:N ratios of wastes to be assesed, prior to disposal.
The section routinely analyses material from a variety of sources, including the research, agricultural, oil and waste/environmental management sectors.
A range of services are provided specificly to meet the needs of gardeners and the agricultural community. A complete list of the services offered, sampling advice and prices are available at MacaulaySoils.com.
